Korea Visa Extension Fee and Every Other Immigration Fee

An extension of stay costs 60,000 KRW, or 30,000 KRW for a marriage immigrant (F-6). A new or replacement Alien Registration Card costs 35,000 KRW, and it is the one fee the rules say to pay in cash.

Every fee in this guide comes from one article of the Enforcement Rules of the Immigration Act (출입국관리법 시행규칙). Here are the main fees, how each fee is paid, what changes in 2027, the 20% discount for applying online, and who pays nothing.

    How much each application costs

Fees verified October 2026 · Enforcement Rules of the Immigration Act, Article 72

The fees are set by law, so they are the same at every office. Article 87 of the Immigration Act says a person who receives a permit pays the fee the Ministry of Justice sets. Article 72 of the Enforcement Rules lists the amounts.

Two common reports cost nothing: a change of address and a change in your registration details. Article 72 lists no fee for either. The article also sets fees for entry permits, refugee travel documents and a few rarer items. The official sources at the end link to that article.

How you pay at the office

Payment rules verified October 2026 · Enforcement Rules, Article 73

Article 73 sets how a fee is paid, and the method depends on where you pay it.

How each fee is paid now
Enforcement Rules, Article 73 · in force until 15 September 2027
Where you pay How you pay
Immigration office A revenue stamp (수입인지) for the amount, or electronic payment
Immigration office, card fee only Cash, or a document showing the cash was paid
Community service center or district office, for certificates A local revenue stamp (수입증지), or electronic payment
Korean embassy or consulate abroad A revenue stamp, cash, or a document showing the cash was paid

So the card fee is the exception. Bring cash for the 35,000 KRW, even if you pay every other fee with a revenue stamp. Some English guides list a revenue stamp for the card fee as well, but Article 73 names cash.

The card fee itself changed recently. It rose from 30,000 KRW to 35,000 KRW on 1 January 2025, when the card began to carry an IC chip.

    What changes in September 2027

An amendment published on 15 September 2026 adds credit and debit cards to Article 73. A note in the same amendment delays this article by one year, so it takes effect on 16 September 2027.

    Payment from 16 September 2027
✓ Immigration office — a revenue stamp, a credit or debit card, or electronic payment
✓ Card fee — cash in place of the revenue stamp, a credit or debit card, or electronic payment
✓ Community service center or district office — a local revenue stamp, a credit or debit card, or electronic payment
✓ Embassy or consulate — a revenue stamp, cash, a credit or debit card, or electronic payment

Until that date, Article 73 does not list credit or debit cards for the fees in this guide. If you read that you can pay by card at the counter, check the date of what you are reading.

How much less you pay online

Discount verified October 2026 · Enforcement Rules, Article 74(2)

Article 74 cuts four kinds of fee by two tenths, that is 20%, when you apply online. The table shows what that means in won.

    Office fee and online fee
Online amounts calculated from Article 74(2): 20% off
    Application At the office Online
Extension of stay 60,000 KRW 48,000 KRW
Change of status of stay 100,000 KRW 80,000 KRW
Change of status to F-5 200,000 KRW 160,000 KRW
Change or addition of workplace 120,000 KRW 96,000 KRW
    Multiple re-entry permit 50,000 KRW 40,000 KRW

The discount applies only to applications Hi Korea accepts online. Not every type is open online for every status of stay. Check Hi Korea’s e-Application list for yours first. The list shows the multiple re-entry permit, but not the single one. Its guide to online extensions also leaves out some statuses, including E-7, F-2, F-4 and F-6. The card fee has no online discount.

    Who pays no fee

Article 74 also waives fees in set cases. These are the ones most likely to apply to a foreign resident.

    Fees waived by Article 74(1)
✓ Diplomatic, official and agreement statuses (A-1 to A-3), and corporate investors (D-8)
✓ People invited for D-1 (culture and arts), D-2 or D-4 activities. The Korean government or a government research institute must invite them and pay their living costs. The waiver covers a change of status, an extension or a re-entry permit.
✓ A replacement card needed because of an error in issuing it
✓ Certificates of entry and exit, or of alien registration, viewed or issued as electronic documents
✓ Those certificates for some applicants, such as basic livelihood recipients (국민기초생활 수급자) and single-parent families supported under the law (한부모가족 지원대상자)
✓ Cases the Minister of Justice approves for national interest or humanitarian reasons

For the certificate waivers, Article 75 lets the office check your status in shared government records if you agree. If you do not agree, you show a document that proves it.

What a fee does not cover

A fee pays for the application only. It is not a penalty, and it does not cover one.

Hi Korea’s Korean guide to extensions says the window runs from four months before your expiry date to the expiry date itself. If you apply after the expiry date, the office imposes a penalty (범칙금) under Article 25 of the Immigration Act. That penalty is separate from the 60,000 KRW fee.

    Frequently asked questions

How much is a visa extension fee?
60,000 KRW at the office, or 30,000 KRW for a marriage immigrant (F-6). Applied online, the same extension is 20% less: 48,000 KRW. F-6 holders cannot extend online, so their fee stays at 30,000 KRW. Some students invited by the Korean government, and D-8 corporate investors, pay nothing.
How much is the fee for a visitor visa extension?
The same 60,000 KRW. Article 72 sets one fee for every extension of stay and has no separate rate for short stays. Only F-6, the online discount and the waivers in Article 74 change the amount.
Can I extend my visa after it expires?
Hi Korea’s extension guide says you apply from four months before the expiry date up to the expiry date itself. An application after that date brings a penalty under Article 25 of the Immigration Act, on top of the fee.
Can I pay by card at the immigration office?
Not under the rules in force now. Article 73 lists a revenue stamp or electronic payment for most fees, and cash for the card fee. Credit and debit cards are added from 16 September 2027.
