Can I Extend My Visa Online in Korea? Hi Korea e-Application

Many people plan to file an extension online on the last day of their stay. Hi Korea’s deadline table for online applications does not allow that. For an extension, the online route closes the day before your expiry date, and earlier if that day falls on a weekend.

Hi Korea’s e-Application (전자민원) lets you file 18 kinds of application without visiting an office. Here is what is on the list, which statuses can extend online, when the online route closes, and how to apply.

    What you can do online

List verified October 2026 · Hi Korea e-Application guide

Hi Korea’s e-Application guide marks each application with two icons: one for filing online, one for a visit reservation. These are the online ones a foreign resident is most likely to need.

    Applications you can file online

The list also covers employers’ reports on foreign workers and a few other filings. Hi Korea states that a permit granted online has the same effect as one granted at an office.

A change of address is the online filing most people need first. It is due within 15 days of moving in.

A passport change is also on the list. Both reports cost nothing.

    What still needs a visit

These applications carry only the visit reservation icon. You book a visit and apply at the office with jurisdiction over your address.

    Visit only
    ✓ Alien registration (외국인등록신청)
✓ A replacement card (등록증 재발급)
✓ Grant of status of stay (체류자격부여)
✓ Change of status for short-term visitors (단기체류자의 체류자격변경허가)
✓ Permission for activities outside your status (체류자격외활동허가), except some fields such as housekeeping and childcare work
✓ Confirmation of visa issuance (사증발급인정서)

First registration is the visit most new arrivals face. Your office is set by your address, and the booking itself is made on Hi Korea.

    Which statuses can extend online

Not every registered foreign resident can extend online. Hi Korea’s guide to extensions for registered foreigners names the statuses that can. Everyone else books a visit.

Online extension by status of stay

A permanent resident (F-5) has no period to extend. Overseas Koreans on F-4 who have reported a residence use a separate online application. For D-2 and D-4 students, the list also has a route through the international student staff of the school (유학생 담당자). A child under 17 is extended through a parent.

Deadlines verified October 2026 · Hi Korea e-Application account and deadline table (Korean attachment)

Hi Korea attaches a table of deadlines to its e-Application guide. It is a Korean file, and the English guide links to the same Korean file.

    Last day to file online
Hi Korea table: accounts and deadlines for e-Application
    Application Last day online
Extension of stay (registered, short-term, F-4) The day before your expiry date
Change of status of stay The day before your expiry date
Extension of stay for departure The day before your expiry date · short-term visitors: two days before
Multiple re-entry permit The expiry date itself
Change of workplace (E-9) The expiry date itself
Part-time work permit (D-2, D-4-1) The expiry date itself
Report of a change of address Within 15 days of moving in
Report of a passport change Not tied to your expiry date

If the last day falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the table counts the Friday before as the last day. If it falls on a public holiday, the day before counts. Online filing runs on weekdays from 07:00 to 22:00.

Hi Korea’s guides give different online deadlines
The English guide to extensions says online applications are taken from 120 to 3 business days before the expiry date. Another language version of that guide gives 60 days. Sources report different figures, so plan on the earliest: file online at least three business days before your expiry date.

If the online route has closed, book a visit at once. A reservation cannot be made for the same day, so the counter route also needs at least one day.

How to apply online, step by step

The e-Application page runs in four stages: choose the application, verify yourself, fill in the form, and see the result. Payment comes between filing and acceptance.

Step 1 — Sign in to Hi Korea

e-Application works from an account. Hi Korea’s table names who can file each application, usually you or a registered immigration agency. Hi Korea notes that some applications need a joint certificate (공동인증서).

Step 2 — Agree to the records check

The first screen asks you to agree that officials may check your details in shared government records. It also states that immigration may ask you to come in, or may refuse the application after review.

Step 3 — Choose the application

Pick the application from the list. Check that it matches your status, using the table above.

Step 4 — Verify yourself and fill in the form

Complete the verification screen, then fill in the form and upload the documents for your status of stay. The document list for each status is in the guide to that application.

Step 5 — Pay the fee

Hi Korea’s process for an online extension is: apply, pay the fee, receipt, processing. A fee for an application that is processed normally is not refunded, according to the same guide.

Step 6 — Check the result and print the confirmation

Track the application under e-Application Status (전자민원 현황). When it is approved, Hi Korea asks you to print the permit confirmation (허가확인서) there and keep it.

What it costs and how long it takes

Fees verified October 2026 · Enforcement Rules of the Immigration Act, Article 74(2)

Filing online cuts the fee by 20% for an extension, a change of status, a change of workplace and a re-entry permit. An extension of stay costs 48,000 KRW online, against 60,000 KRW at the office.

    Time to a decision
Hi Korea guide to extensions for registered foreigners
    Route Time Hi Korea gives
Online, normal case About 10 days
Online, when the office needs to check further About 2 months
Visit About 14 days in general, longer when the office is busy

Ten days is a reason to file early, not late. The full list of fees, waivers and payment methods is in the guide to immigration fees.
